Deed Poll near me
Deed Poll near me? There is no office to visit
You do not need to go anywhere to change your name by Deed Poll. You apply online in about five minutes, a paralegal drafts it, and it is posted to you the same working day, to any address in the UK. The one step done in person is the signing, with your two witnesses watching: a neighbour, a colleague or a friend from close by.
- Posted the same working day
- Any UK address
- Accepted, or your money back

For enrolment only
The Deed Poll Office
It is part of the High Court, at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, and it deals with enrolling a Deed Poll on the public record. You apply online or by post rather than in person, it costs £53.05 and GOV.UK says it can take several months.
Enrolment is optional. It is not how a name is changed, and it is not needed for a Deed Poll to be accepted. Do you have to register it?

A choice, not a must
A solicitor’s office
Solicitors and specialist agencies can both draft one for you, GOV.UK says, and either may charge for it. A solicitor’s version is signed and witnessed in exactly the same way, and HM Passport Office tells its staff a witness need not be a solicitor.
You would usually need an appointment, and the fee is theirs to set.
-
No visit at all
A service that posts it to you
That is us: £18.50 for an adult or a child, hand-drafted by a paralegal and checked before it goes in the post that same working day. If it is not accepted, you get your money back.
The Adult Deed Poll
Your witnesses are the only people you need nearby
Each witness watches you sign, then signs straight after you and writes their name and address. Your Deed Poll has a space for each of two, and we recommend using both.
- 18 or over, on the day they sign
- Independent of you: not a relative or partner, and not living at your address
- In the room, watching you sign in ink. A video call does not count
A neighbour over the fence, someone you work with or a friend from down the road are the usual choices, and it takes about five minutes.
Where people find a witnessWhen a solicitor near you is worth the visit
For an ordinary change of name, a solicitor adds a fee rather than anything you need. HM Passport Office’s staff guidance lists what it checks on a Deed Poll: your signature in both names, a witness, ink rather than a printed signature, and a date. Who drafted it is not on the list.
Advice is a different matter. If the other parent will not agree to a child’s new name, no Deed Poll can be made without them, and the route is the family court. The same goes for anything tied up with a dispute, a business or an inheritance: there, advice on your own facts is what you are paying for. The Deed Polls Online handbook, our sister site, sets out when a solicitor is needed and when not.

Deed Polls near you, answered
Is there a Deed Poll office near me I can visit?
No, and you do not need one. The only Deed Poll Office is the High Court's, at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, and it handles enrolment, which you apply for online or by post. To change your name you order a Deed Poll, it is posted to you, and you sign it at home with your witnesses. How it reaches you.
Do I need a solicitor near me to change my name by Deed Poll?
No. Solicitors and specialist agencies can both draft one for you, GOV.UK says, and either may charge for it, but neither is required, and HM Passport Office says a witness need not be a solicitor. Ours is £18.50, drafted by a paralegal and posted to you.
Can I get a Deed Poll quickly without going anywhere?
Yes. Order on a working day and it is drafted, checked and posted that day. By Tracked, at £6.99, it takes 1 to 2 working days to reach you, and your new name is legal as soon as you sign it with your witnesses. Same-day and next-day Deed Polls.
Where do I sign my Deed Poll?
Wherever suits you and your witnesses: at home, at work or over the garden fence. What matters is that each witness is an adult who is independent of you and is there in person, watching you sign in ink. Finding a witness.
Can a solicitor or notary near me witness my Deed Poll?
Yes, if they are willing, though they may charge for it and you would usually book an appointment. Their signature adds nothing a friend's or a neighbour's would not, so someone you know does just as well.
Something else? Ask a paralegal and we will answer, usually the same working day.
