Your order, from checkout to post box

Speed is not an upgrade here. Adult, child or replacement, every Deed Poll gets the same day’s work for £18.50, and the only choice that changes how soon it reaches you is the post.

  1. About 5 minutesYou fill in the orderYour names as they are now and as they will be, and where to post it. The confirmation email arrives straight away.
  2. That dayDrafted by hand, then checkedA paralegal writes your deed in wording we know is accepted, and quality control reads every name and date before it is printed.
  3. That dayInto the postOn our green certificate paper, with any certified copies you added, in the Royal Mail service you picked.

Ordering after that day’s post has gone, at a weekend or on a bank holiday? Your Deed Poll is drafted and posted on the next working day instead.

If you order today

We post it the same working day. After that, the post you pick decides when it lands:

  • Tracked1 to 2 working days, at £6.99
  • Tracked & Signed1 to 2 working days, at £9.99
  • 1st Class1 to 3 working days, at £4.99
  • 2nd Class3 to 5 working days, at £2.99

The name becomes yours on the day you sign it in front of your witnesses.

Choosing the post

Which delivery gets it to you fastest?

Tracked and Tracked & Signed share the shortest window, and 1st Class can also arrive the next working day but may take a day longer. The bars show each service’s window in working days after we post it.

The small print, in plain words

What “next day” can mean, and what it cannot

A Deed Poll that arrives tomorrow is possible most weeks. Here is exactly how much of that is a promise.

  • It can mean this

Posted today, on your mat tomorrow

Tracked, Tracked & Signed and 1st Class all start at one working day. Order on a working day and the deed can reach you on the next one.

  • A best case, not a promise

Royal Mail sets the delivery times

The times are Royal Mail’s estimates, so the next working day is the quickest outcome rather than a certainty. None of the services at our checkout is a guaranteed next-day delivery.

  • Count working days

Weekends and bank holidays do not count

Posted on a Friday, its first working day is the Monday. A bank holiday in the week moves every date along by a day, and the dates above already allow for that.

  • It cannot mean this

In your hands the day you order

Your Deed Poll travels by post as the printed document. There is no emailed or downloadable version, because you sign the paper itself, by hand, with your witnesses watching.

The fastest part

Your name changes the day you sign it

There is no processing time after it arrives and nothing to wait for: GOV.UK says a signed deed poll works as proof of your new name at once.

So the one thing worth doing while it is in the post is lining up your witnesses. Your Deed Poll has space for two, and we recommend using both: adults who are not related to you and do not live with you. Stuck for someone? Where people find a witness.

Order certified copies with it too. Many organisations accept a copy in place of the original, so you can tell several at once rather than waiting for the deed to come back each time.

The day it arrives

  1. Check the namesRead both names and your title through before anyone picks up a pen.
  2. Sign it twice, with your witnesses watchingOnce in your old name and once in your new one, then they sign and add their details. Where each signature goes.
  3. That is itThe new name is legally yours from that moment, with nothing to send back to us.
After it is signed

What usually takes longer: the passport

Your Deed Poll can be with you in a day or two. A passport in the new name is the step most likely to set your timetable.

  1. Your Deed PollPosted the same working dayThen 1 to 2 working days by Tracked
  2. Your new nameLegal the day you signProof of it straight away
  3. Passport, standardUsually within 3 weeksHM Passport Office’s own estimate
  4. Passport, 1 week Fast TrackA week after your appointment£192 for an adult, and it can take a change of name

HM Passport Office says you will usually get a passport within 3 weeks. If that is too slow, its 1 week Fast Track service can change the name on a passport: you can be seen as soon as the day after applying, and a courier brings the passport a week after that appointment. The 1 day Premium service is for adult renewals alone, and GOV.UK lists a change of name under Fast Track instead.

Already booked a trip? GOV.UK asks that a booking carries the same name as the passport you travel on, so travel on the one you hold, in the name printed in it.

We do not help with passport applications

Make the application yourself, direct with HM Passport Office on GOV.UK or through a Post Office. Do not use any other website, company or agent.

Questions & answers

Fast Deed Polls, answered

Can I get a Deed Poll the same day?

Yours can be in the post the same day. An order placed on a working day is drafted by a paralegal, checked by quality control and posted that day. It cannot reach you that day, because it travels by Royal Mail, so the soonest it can arrive is the next working day, by Tracked, Tracked & Signed or 1st Class.

Is there a next-day Deed Poll?

Tracked (£6.99) and Tracked & Signed (£9.99) take 1 to 2 working days, and 1st Class (£4.99) takes 1 to 3, so any of them can arrive the next working day. Those are Royal Mail’s estimates rather than a guarantee, and none of the services at our checkout is a guaranteed next-day delivery.

Do you charge extra for a fast-track Deed Poll?

No. Every Deed Poll is drafted and posted the same working day for £18.50, whether it is for an adult, a child or a replacement. Only the post you choose at the checkout changes how fast it reaches you, from £2.99 for 2nd Class.

What if I order in the evening or at the weekend?

An order that comes in after that day’s post has gone, at a weekend or on a bank holiday is drafted and posted on the next working day. The delivery times then count from that day.

Can you email my Deed Poll so I have it today?

No. It is printed on our certificate paper and posted, and you sign that paper by hand in front of your witnesses. HM Passport Office’s caseworker guidance asks for every signature on an unenrolled deed poll to be a wet signature, made in ink.

When can I start using my new name?

From the moment you and your witnesses have signed it. GOV.UK confirms that a signed deed poll works as proof of a new name at once, and there is nothing to register or send back to us.

Can I get a passport in my new name quickly?

HM Passport Office says a passport usually arrives within 3 weeks. Its 1 week Fast Track service, £192 for an adult, can change the name on a passport, while the 1 day Premium service covers adult renewals alone. We do not help with passport applications, so apply direct on GOV.UK or at a Post Office.

I have a deadline. Will my Deed Poll arrive in time?

Ask a paralegal before you order, with the date you are working to, and we will tell you honestly whether it should arrive in time. If it is tight, choose Tracked so you can follow the envelope with Royal Mail.

In a hurry? It can be in the post today
